Brighton 10K Entry Now Open!

Written by Dave Boyce Wednesday, 02 July 2008 21:29

Entries for the Brighton 10K are now open, with entry available both online and through the postal entry form. This year's race takes place on Sunday 16th November, with an early 10.00am start on Madeira Drive. This year we have a race limit of 3000 runners, and a closing date of the 20th October, but it's best to get entries in early as the race limit is often reached much earlier. We're promised better weather this year, and as always the course is flat and fast!

Southern Women's League Match 3 Results

Despite a huge number of athletes dropping out at the very last minute, we managed another 3rd place and remain 11th in the league. We knew it was going to be a tough match as we were against two of the top four teams and so it was a relief that Crawley only turned up with four under 15 athletes. The overall standard was higher than our previous two matches, so it was great to have Laura and Natalie back from university, gaining valuable points in a number of events. Sarah and Anne were back in fine form in the throws, with Anne’s excellent shot put of 11.68 being the highlight of the match (although her equally fine pb in the triple jump caused a huge cheer too!). As we were so short of athletes, there were lots of opportunities to try new events, and I would like to thank Sarah for her strong powers of persuasion, encouraging Ellie in the long jump, and leading by example in the triple jump!

In the under 15 section, the eight athletes managed to cover all but the middle distance events between them, filling spaces to gain good points. Gabi was near her best in the long jump and covered the hurdles and high jump events very successfully at the last minute. Grace and Ellie both gained good points in the throws and Kerri-Ann performed well in tough sprint events. We were grateful to Grace for joining the relay team, literally at the last minute, where we beat the Crawley quartet in convincing style!

Thanks again to everyone who helped – Bob, Denise, Carol, Howard and Derek in particular – your support is invaluable. The next match is on 26 July in Guildford. The coach will leave at 10 o’clock.

Sunday 29th June the club are hosting a training open day at Withdean - come down to train or chat to and help potential athletes. Details on http://www.takepartbrightonandhove.com/howdoitakepart.html

On Sunday 7th July the Parkrun team host a special 5km timetrial on Hove seafront. All welcome. Sign up for FREE and get details at www.parkrun.com.
